More Preparation

Last week I gave you a wrong link for the purchase of Solar Viewers, which unfortunately ends up on a German website. Of course, shipping would take a little too long.
Here, at the best known online shop, you can of course also buy these glasses. Please be careful not to buy cheap. Quality has its price.

“Make an event of the day, work from home or even take the day off,”
As already mentioned, it will be several years before the next total solar eclipse. So we shouldn't let this day pass us by.
Good preparation is important, and why not start getting a few things now. On April 8th, millions of people will spend over a few hours outdoors watching the eclipse. We are all hoping for nice weather and a clear sky. Although the sun is not quite as strong in April, you should still prepare and protect yourself.

- drink enough and have enough water and snacks with you
- Parasol and hat or visor, sunglasses
- a comfortable folding chair
- sunscreen, insect repellent
- VERY IMPORTANT - the Eclipse Glasses or Handheld Solar Viewers
- maybe a jacket

Why a jacket? The sky will darken quite a bit and the moon will cover the sun for a little more than 4 minutes.
Even today in the 21st century there are still mysteries surrounding a solar eclipse. Temperature differences of about 10-12 F have been measured in the past (under clear skies). Wind gusts may occur.
Read correctly: The so-called "eclipse wind" along the imaginary line between total and complete solar eclipse still gives scientists a headache today. So you can imagine what was going on in many cultures in ancient times and was seen as an ominous omen.
Let's assume that the world will not end on April 8th and that we can all enjoy this spectacle.
Google of course has a map on which you can see exactly how the course will be. You can use this map to find the places you want to travel to. As I mentioned in my last blog, there will be a lot going on on the roads and in the air. Be prepared.

Here is another interesting link with animation for all Alabamians who stayed at home.

In my next blog you will learn more about the right camera settings for your cell phone camera, whether you need filters for it and where you can get the coveted solar glasses for free.
